Lessons from Nature
By Susanne Mornan-Vaughan
If we would only take the time to study nature, we would realise that its constituents have qualities that could contribute to our ability to succeed in life. We can learn a lot from nature. In fact, lately, I have made a concerted effort to spend time observing nature and here are a few of the lessons that I have picked up along the way.
Like perennials that continue to grow despite adverse weather conditions, lets endeavor to persevere even when the going gets rough. The perennial represents perseverance to me, Mother Nature's way of telling us to hang in there, no matter what!
N - never give up on the goals that you have set yourself. Keep trying until you succeed. For every goal accomplished you are one step closer to where you want to be.
Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. Getting to the peak of this mountain is the main the driving force behind the aspiration of its climbers. Likewise, in whatever we set out to do, lets aim high.
A - aim high, aspire to great heights and you'll find that your achievements will often exceed your expectations.
The different seasons of the year, winter, spring, summer and autumn follow in sequence year in year out. The seasons of the year remind me that everything in life has it season or time for being. So lets take time to identify and evaluate as we go through
different stages in life.
T- think before you act. Through this you will be able to take stock of where you are now and establish plans to accomplish future goals.
We have a lot to learn from the ants. Despite their perceived insignificance they pool together their individual strengths and work as a team to store up food during the summer so that they can survive the winter.
U - use your talents, no matter how insignificant they may seem to you. Collaboration with others is often required to get the best out of our talents. So like the ants, lets work together with others to develop and utilise them effectively.
Blue and white are the colours that usually make up the sky on a bright summer day. At this time of the year, the sky is a symbol of tranquility and relaxation to me.
R - relaxation clears the mind, refreshes the soul and replenishes our energy levels. No matter how busy your schedule is, make sure that you always take time out to relax.
E - enjoy life! After all your hard work it is essential to take time out to enjoy the benefits of your labour. You deserve it!
