Its All in the V by Shanda Phillip
The air was still. The sky and lake
mirrored each other in blue-grey
stillness. With stale bread in my hand,
my intention was to feed the ducks but
little did I know that I would be fed in
return with not one but two lessons.
Sprinkling bread on the ground and
keeping some in my hand, I found two
reactions to my offering. Some ducks
waited till I threw the bread on the
ground before snapping them up and
others, well they didnŒt want to wait
and were eating out of my hand in
hunger.
The first lesson has two parts. The
Ìwait-and-seeŒ ducks embodied anxiety
and mistrust, questioning what life
could or may give and therefore seemed
to live day-by-day, hand-to-mouth. In
comparison there were the ÌsnappersŒ
who quacked with life and
demonstrated opportunistic behaviour
i.e. if an opportunity presents itself
grab it!
So without ducking (excuse the pun)
away from this insight, it was
interesting to see these ÌsnappersŒ when
the bread was gone, leave the dry bank
and return to the water. And so we
need to realise that opportunities have
an expiry date À in other words they
donŒt last long and soon are used up.
Therefore returning to the water is like
becoming explorative.
However, there is a further lesson to be
had because they created a water-path
with a definite >>>> effect. At the apex
of each V-shape there was a duck. In
this analogy the first V represents our
ultimate goal and direction and the
other Vs that follow are our sub-goals.
As fall turns to winter, it is time to try
to look forward, set goals and head in
that direction.
Life is not stagnant, be like a spring leaf
trembling in anticipation!!
Life is a four-sided affair - the physical,
the mental, the social, and the
spiritual. You have not one, but four
lives to live, and a four-fold opportunity
to grow.
Dare to be strong À Eight hoursŒ sleep,
Open windows for fresh air, regular
daily exercise, eat things that are good
for you.
Dare to think creatively À Stagnant
minds are the greatest obstacles to
progress, therefore gear up your mind
to capacity and share its strength with
others. How? Read the right kinds of
books and donŒt let the author do all of
your thinking for you. Interpret
thoughts into something definite in your
own life. How can you apply it in your
work tomorrow? If you can contribute
one ounce of original thought, you have
dared to dream.
Dare to have a personality À Faces that
smile, voices that ring, steps that are
firm, interests that are broad are
likeable personalities. DonŒt always
judge a water pump by the squeaks it
makes, or a chance acquaintance. Keep
drawing out to find the deeper treasure
of rich personality down the well. Be
your own self with all people whether
they be King or Homeless. Always dare
to share, naturally, frankly and
honestly. Sharing increases.
Dare to build character À Hidden down
in every person is the Divine - Real
faith, dreams and visionsþ Lift your
thoughts above the commonplace and
live in the Presence of the Best.
Spiritual investments are repaid a
thousand fold.
Make a masterpiece of your life!!!
